The window you are looking through is inside Santa Maria Della Scala, Siena, Italy’s beautiful medieval hospital, that has been converted into a wonderful museum. The marble facade you are looking out at is that of Il Duomo, Siena’s beautiful Cathedral dedicated to the Virgin Mary.

After going to Il Duomo we went to San Francesco and San Bernadino (my favorite). The two churches are so quiet and peaceful now without the droves of tourists. San Francesco has St. Catherine’s head inside of it. Catholics have an interesting relationship with relics. I’m not sure I like having pieces of saints all over the place in churches, it kind of weirds me out.
